Looks like the FLH Reunion is on. I’ll be traveling to Southern Ohio the second week in September to jam with the guys who got me through my senior year in High School. I am hoping Andy can come with me, but Annie is going to be staying here in Florida. Its going to be a short tip, I’m only going for a couple of days, but those couple of Days are Going to ROCK.

I have made a page here on the site to track all the detail, its empty at the moment, but I will be adding info as I get it. Check it out the Four Lane Highway Reunion Page.

I also created a Four Lane Highway Set on Flickr’ of the Photos that have been going around the net from the old days. I wanted to make sure they were not lost. See the Four Lane Highway Photos on Flickr.

Check back for more info.

Playing a fairly complicated song on the keyboards. Roy Wooten’s of Bella Fleck and the Flecktones plays the Drumitar an instrument of his own creation. Until now that was the only real example I had of someone using a keyboards as drums. I wish I knew the guys name .. he rocks.

I have decided to start a series of posts dedicated to great drumming I find on the net. My first post in this series is of a kid who sounds like I wanted to sound when I was 16 and thought I was the shit behind a drum kit.

His name is Dylan Elise and he is playing at the Tauranga National Jazz Festival in New Zealand. I can only wish I had those chops at 16. He’s 19 now and I am sure we have not heard the last of this kid.

Enjoy and watch for the stick work around minute 9:00.

27 years ago, (not exactly) I went to my friend Steve’s place on the campus of Ohio State University, just off High Street if I remember. If it is still there, I could probably find the place if I needed too. I was at OSU to see Grand Funk Railroad. It was their first reunion tour after being broken up for a number of years.

We were stoke, previously we had played in a small band together and GFR was defiantly on our play list. At least two of our band mates, Doug and Deven were along as well (cant remember if Larry was there of not). The show rocked, literally!IT is interesting to note that if I remember correctly, That was the only show of that reunion tour. I guess old issues flared up and they parted ways again after giving it another go around.

I have always wished I could remember more of the actual show, I tend to remember events on the perifrial of that night. I’ll keep it to myself as to why. But fast forward to today. At a small little town festival not far from here the Pompano Seafood Festival tonight’s headline act if GFR. I cant tell you how much I have been looking forward to this over the past couple of weeks. I know only two of the original band members are still in the group, I know that these guy are closing in on 60 years old … I don’t care. Its still great music and after 27 years, I am going to remember it this time.

Hoping to have plenty of pics from the day to add to the flickr account, including one of me wearing the “40 Years of Funk” concert tee. I may have to figure out a way to change it to 27 years.

There have been some interesting posts and discussions over at Steve Gobles site Swords Against Boredom about the band we were in when we were much younger; Four Lane Highway. Steve has been posting videos of the songs we used to play and some fun discussions have started.

Steve was our bass player, Deven has joined in the discussion, he was the led vocalist and I was our drummer. Doug and Larry have not joined in (both guitar players) but I am betting they will soon. This 4LaneHwy is not us … we never played anywhere near Wisconsin.

We took our name from the Pure Prairie League album “Two Lane Highway“. Doug (the artist of the group) even created a logo for us based on the album title logo. Notice on the Wikipedia page, the origin of PPL is “Wavery Ohio” .. this is where we all grew up and went to High School, hence the tribute.
